The employee's choice decided eWork´s philanthropic program
An active community involvement is an integral part of eWork's corporate culture. Therefore, a employee each month can use three hours of their time to work in a nonprofit organization.
Faced with the choice of the organizations all employees were asked about the direction of eWork´s non-profit involvement. Children´s welfare and mentorship program was considered as very important areas, as well as climate, environmental and natural resources issues.
An important criterion for the final choice was in which organization eWork´s employees, with after all limited time of work can do the most good.
Mentor
In 2008 the co-operation with Mentor was initiated. Mentor is a non profit organisation with a main goal to give young people, between the ages of 13 and 17, the strength to resist drugs and violence, by giving them adult role models and study motivating activities. The target is to inpire with courage, motivation and a positive development among our young people.
A number of co-workers from eWork have chosen to get involved by becoming role models for job inspiration. As a mentor you get to see a young person, a mentee, on a regular basis during a period of time and you become a support and an adult friend for that person. Being a role model for job inspiration (job instructors) involves a more limited undertaking where employess from different corporations talk about their profession and places of work for students that are in their final high school year. Shortly after that presentation, a small group of students have the possibility to visit that work place and get an insight of that mentor's profession and how things work at his/her work place. This initiative is very much appreciated from the job instructors and the students themselves who receive inspiration and help before their choice of senior high school and/or direction of studies.
Mentor is a non profit organisation that was established in 1996 and works side-by-side with the business world and offers parenting seminars, courses and other activities such as night watch and help with home work.
